Every once in a while, people from the real world contact me to talk over something they read in one of my blogs. Basically they want to know, “How do you come up with this stuff?” and “Where can I learn more?” As you may know by now, I disagree with about 90% of everything workplace wellness currently stands for. Just can’t stand it. Drives me nuts.
Some days, I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. If you’re giving a graduation speech (speaker requirements are beyond my grade level), may I suggest you share this insight: When life seems so absurd and insane you don’t know whether to laugh or cry – choose to laugh!
But as you’ll learn, my idea that workplace wellness is
totally screwed up is not based on cloud formations.
I’ve got lots of company. There is a much better way (grounded in sound science and experience). I am hoping that 90% stupidity factor in workplace wellness starts to drop. Fast.
Salveo Partners, LLC (see note below) formed by two of my colleagues and friends, Dr. Rosie Ward and Dr. Jon Robison, has put together a gold mine of recommended books, blogs and other resources. The descriptions of each are so refreshing and inspirational to review it will make you want to cheer. Those resources are the knowledge foundation of revolutionary leaders like: Rosie Ward… Jon Robison… Al Lewis… Laura Putnam… Vik Khanna… Tom Emerick…Wendy Lynch… Dean Witherspoon… Michaela Conley… Dee Edington (probationary revolutionary status)… Bob Merberg… David Buchanan… and a growing list of others who have had enough with Orwellian Wellness and are boldly squaring off with the beast. Or, have been squaring off with it for years.
I mean really, how do you want to spend your career?
a) Farting around with wellness models that are clinically focused, bad outcome prone, nonsensical, stupid stuff that employees hate, and employers are always eyeing to cut?
b) Putting great… popular… sustainable… affordable… effective… and common-sense programs in place (probably not called wellness)?
