Have you ever experienced burnout from an exercise routine? It is a common problem for many people, even the most devoted fitness fanatics. You do the same thing over and over. Then, after awhile, you can become bored and just can’t get motivated to keep going, no matter how good your intentions may be.
The same can be true for your wellness program and its participants. If you include the same activities time and time again without adding anything new or different, your wellness program participants may lose interest.
Here are 4 ideas to increase enthusiasm and involvement in your wellness program:
#1. Host a friendly, health competition: Have employees track how long they exercise every day. The department with the most minutes/hours after a week gets a special casual day or some other free/inexpensive reward.
#2. Designate a meditation room: Have an extra office, or even closet, you’re not using? Turn it into a soothing meditation room – think soft lighting, soothing music, and a refreshing fragrance. Employee can take a five- or 10-minute break to escape and recharge.
#3. Throw a monthly potluck: Pick a different theme every month. Have participants bring in ingredients for a salad bar, a create-your-own-sandwich bar, or soup bar.
#4. Encourage participants to share inspirational quotes. Have a designated email address to which they can send the sayings. Then, print and post them around the worksite – halls, restrooms, break rooms, etc.
Also, don’t be afraid to ask participants for their ideas on how to infuse your wellness program with interesting additions. You might be surprised at the great suggestions they may have!
